This is Your Call to Duty IBEW: 2017 Construction Conference

IBEW International President Lonnie Stephenson opened the 2017 Construction and Maintenance Conference with a strong message around growth and recruiting new talent into our union. Diversity is our strength and “we must speak out against any actions of bigotry that divide us.” The theme of the annual Construction and Maintenance Conference was aptly named “Call to Duty” as IP Stephenson went on to underscore the duty of every IBEW leader and rank and file member to defend and promote our union, and share the great work that the IBEW does – both on and off the job – throughout our social networks.

The well attended conference took place in Washington DC, kicking off with the Outside Construction and Line Clearance Tree Trimming Conference on March 30th, followed by the Construction and Maintenance Conference March 31st – April 1st.

Delegates had the opportunity to hear from not only IP Stephenson, but outgoing International Secretary-Treasurer Sam Chilia, Jim Ross, Director of the Construction and Maintenance Department at the IBEW and Mark McManus, General President of the United Association.

Workshops took place throughout the conference on Business Development, Membership Development and Must-Dos for Organizing Success, Education: Code of Excellence and SPARQ. Canadian delegates also participated in the Canadian Caucus, hosted by International Vice President Bill Daniels, which has become a staple at all of our IBEW Conferences, allowing space for Canadian Local Unions to share updates specific to our country.
